Race Report ADAC GT4 Germany Sachsenring

Walkenhorst Motorsport drivers secure important points in the battle for the ADAC GT4 Germany Junior classification

Walkenhorst Motorsport copes with a challenging weekend at the Sachsenring. With the top race result on Sunday, the team is still on course for a podium finish in the junior classification.

Sachsenring. The penultimate ADAC GT4 Germany weekend took place at the Sachsenring. The fifth round of the championship posed a number of challenges for the international starting field of 27 vehicles on the 3.645 kilometer long mountain and valley track, especially since the “little Nordschleife”, as the route is still called, is particularly technically demanding.

The four Walkenhorst Motorsport drivers had to collect points for the junior classification. It was already clear in free practice that the title fight was getting more intense.

Enzo Joulié and Sami Matti Trogen started Saturday’s race from ninth position in the #35 BMW M4 GT4. Teammates Nico Hantke and Mex Jansen qualified for tenth place. However, after a remarkable race to catch up, both vehicles were plagued by bad luck. The demanding route and the high summer temperatures took their toll. With the podium in sight, both BMW M4 GT4s had to be parked shortly before the end of the race due to tire damage.

Qualifying for the second race was also unfortunate. In particular, starting number #34 was unable to finish their fastest lap because qualifying was stopped with a red flag. The duo Nico Hantke and Mex Jansen only started the race from 14th. Enzo Joulié and Sami Matti Trogen were able to position themselves for eleventh place. During the course of the race, the team from Melle once again showed their fighting qualities and both vehicles delivered a strong performance. The BMW M4 GT4 #34 shone and moved up to second place overall. Nico Hantke secured this place with great racing skill in the last corner. The teammates with #35 finished in a very good fifth place.

The results on Sunday, but also the prospect of a good placing on Saturday, confirmed the performance of Walkenhorst Motorsport. Important points for the championship were collected, particularly in the junior classification. Before the last double event at the Hockenheimring, the duo Mex Jansen and Nico Hantke are in third place with 133 points. The gap to second place was reduced to three points. Enzo Joulié follows in fourth place. In the overall ranking, the vehicle with #35 is now in fifth place, the one with #34 in eleventh.

The last ADAC GT4 Germany weekend will take place at the Hockenheimring  October 20th to 22nd.
