TRIPLE HEADER

From October 8th – 10th, Walkenhorst Motorsport didn’t just have a double header but a triple header. While a big part of the team was in sunny Barcelona participating at the GTWCEU and another part was fighting for points in the DTM Championship at the Norisring, the third part spent the weekend at the Nürburgring to contest the last NLS race of the season.
Two BMW M6 GT3 competed in the GTWCEU – #34 with Nick Yelloly, David Pittard and Jake Dennis and #35 with Nicky Catsburg, Martin Tomczyk and Thomas Neubauer. Unfortunately, the weekend did not go as planned for the crew. About half an hour after the start of the race, the #35 unfortunately had to retire due to technical issues. The trio in the number 34 managed to finish the race and ended up in 14th place in the Pro Cup.
At the Norisring, Marco Wittmann and the third BMW M6 GT3 # 11 were ready to fight in the last two races of the DTM season. Qualifying on Saturday was anything but good for the team, because unfortunately only P19 was possible. From there he was able to work his way up to P12 in the course of the race. On Sunday he started from P16 but again he was able to work his way up a good bit and even made it into the top 10 with a solid 7th place.
As the last one, this weekend at the Norisring went very well for the young Theo Oeverhaus. In the BMW M2 Cup, he was able to win both races on Saturday and Sunday and was thus able to demonstrate all of his skills again towards the end of the season. In the DTM Trophy, which he contested with his BMW M4 GT4 # 34, he finished in P6 on Saturday and P9 on Sunday.
The rest of the team was at the Nürburgring with the second BMW M4 GT4 #181 with the drivers Chandler Hull and Jonathan Miller, as well as the M2 CS Racing # 888 with Florian Weber, Davide Dehren and Matthew Greenwood. Here, good results were achieved. The drivers of the #888 managed to drive to P3 in the CUP5 and the American duo of the #181 even took P2 in the SP10 class.
Regardless of which of the three races they were involved in, the whole team was super motivated and wanted to give everything in the last race of the season. The 2021 season had both ups and downs, but these were clearly outshone by the victories and podiums. Unfortunately everyone would have wished for better results at the last races for the M6 GT3. However, Walkenhorst Motorsport is already looking forward to the next season and can’t wait to explore the new M4 GT3.

Vom 8. bis 10. Oktober hatte Walkenhorst Motorsport nicht nur einen “Double Header”, sondern einen „Triple Header“. Während ein großer Teil des Teams im sonnigen Barcelona an der GTWCEU teilnahm und ein anderer Teil auf dem Norisring um Punkte in der DTM-Meisterschaft kämpfte, verbrachte der dritte Teil das Wochenende auf dem Nürburgring, um das letzte NLS-Rennen der Saison zu bestreiten.
Zwei BMW M6 GT3 starteten in der GTWCEU – #34 mit Nick Yelloly, David Pittard und Jake Dennis und #35 mit Nicky Catsburg, Martin Tomczyk und Thomas Neubauer. Leider verlief das Wochenende für die Crew nicht wie geplant. Etwa eine halbe Stunde nach dem Start des Rennens musste die #35 leider wegen technischer Probleme aussetzen. Das Trio mit der Startnummer 34 schaffte es, das Rennen zu beenden und landete auf dem 14. Platz im Pro Cup.
Auf dem Norisring standen Marco Wittmann und der dritte BMW M6 GT3 #11 in den letzten beiden Rennen der DTM-Saison für den Kampf bereit. Das Qualifying am Samstag war alles andere als gut für das Team, denn leider war nur P19 möglich. Von dort aus konnte er sich im Laufe des Rennens auf P12 hocharbeiten. Am Sonntag startete er von P16, konnte sich aber wieder ein gutes Stück nach oben arbeiten und schaffte es mit einem soliden 7. Platz sogar in die Top 10.
Als letztes lief dieses Wochenende auf dem Norisring sehr gut für den jungen Theo Oeverhaus. Im BMW M2 Cup konnte er am Samstag und Sonntag beide Rennen gewinnen und damit gegen Saisonende erneut sein ganzes Können unter Beweis stellen. In der DTM Trophy, die er mit seinem BMW M4 GT4 #34 bestritt, fuhr er am Samstag auf P6 und am Sonntag auf P9.
Der Rest des Teams war mit dem zweiten BMW M4 GT4 #181 mit den Fahrern Chandler Hull und Jonathan Miller sowie dem M2 CS Racing #888 mit Florian Weber, Davide Dehren und Matthew Greenwood auf dem Nürburgring unterwegs. Hier wurden gute Ergebnisse erzielt. Die Fahrer der #888 schafften es im CUP5 auf P3 zu fahren und das amerikanische Duo der #181 sogar P2 in der SP10-Klasse.
Egal an welchem der drei Rennen Walkenhorst beteiligt war, das ganze Team war super motiviert und wollte im letzten Rennen der Saison alles geben. Die Saison 2021 hatte sowohl Höhen als auch Tiefen, die jedoch durch die Siege und Podestplätze deutlich in den Schatten gestellt wurden. Leider hätten sich alle bei den letzten Rennen für den M6 GT3 bessere Ergebnisse gewünscht. Walkenhorst Motorsport freut sich jedoch schon jetzt auf die nächste Saison und kann es kaum erwarten, den neuen M4 GT3 zu erkunden
