NLS 7 – the 6H race of the year!

After a two-month summer break, the NLS finally started into the next round on the weekend of September 9^th. The whole Walkenhorst Motorsport team was already looking forward to the event. But this time the race was far from being over after the traditional four hours. Because at this year’s highlight of the season, the “ROWE 6 Hours ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen”, the regular race time was followed by another two hours of exciting duels, risky overtaking manoeuvres and pretty much everything the motorsport heart desires.The fact that fans were welcome both in the pit lane and on the start-finish straight before the start also contributed to the good atmosphere and the anticipation of the race. Probably the most emotional moment off track was the inauguration of the “Sabine-Schmitz-Kurve” which was dedicated to the deceased “Queen of the Nordschleife.”

This weekend Walkenhorst Motorsport once again had a few taxi guests on site, who did a lap around the Nordschleife with one of the actual race cars and their respective drivers. The joy of the co-drivers could be seen from their faces when they got out of the car and they would all have loved to ride a few more laps.

On Saturday Walkenhorst Motorsport competed with six cars in three different racing classes. In category SP9 Pro the BMW M6 GT3 #34 started with the drivers Christian Kroges, David Pittard and Ben Tuck, and the sister car #35 was driven by Jörg Müller, Mario von Bohlen, Thomas Neubauer and Dennis Fetzer. Unfortunately, the #34 had to retire early from the race, while the #35 secured P6 in their class. The third BMW M6 GT3 #36 drove in the SP9 AM category with Henry Walkenhorst, Jörg Breuer and Andreas Ziegler, they made it in their class P2. Of course, both BMW M2 CSr were also represented in Cup5. The #888 car was driven by Florian Weber, Davide Dehren and Thomas D. Hetzer, who reached P6 in their class. The second M2 CSr #889 driven by Steven Liquorish, Matthew Greenwood and Nicolai Kjaergaard managed to end the race on P8.

Even if the race weekend didn’t necessarily go as expected, a six-hour race is a real interesting experience. Because coordinating so many cars and drivers is very demanding, but it is also a lot of fun. Even the disappointment about the early retirement from the BMW M6 GT3 #34 could not harm the generally very good mood in the team.

Nach einer zweimonatigen Sommerpause ging die NLS am Wochenende um den 11.09 endlich in die nächste Runde, das ganze Walkenhorst Motorsport-Team freute sich schon sehr auf die Veranstaltung. Doch dieses Mal war nach den traditionellen vier Stunden noch lange nicht Schluss, denn beim diesjährigen Saisonhighlight, dem ROWE 6 Stunden ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen, folgten noch einmal zwei Stunden voller spannender Duelle, riskanter Überholmanöver und so ziemlich allem was das Motorsportherz begehrt. Auch die Tatsache, dass Fans vor dem Start sowohl in der Boxengasse als auch auf der Star-Zielgeraden willkommen waren, trug zur guten Atmosphäre und der Vorfreude auf das Rennen bei. Der wohl emotionalste Moment neben der Strecke war allerdings die Einweihung der “Sabine-Schmitz-Kurve” welche der verstorbenen “Königin der Nordschleife” gewidmet wurde.

An diesem Wochenende hatte Walkenhorst Motorsport wieder einmal einige Taxi-Gäste vor Ort, welche sich von den Fahrern der jeweiligen Rennwagen über die Strecke kutschieren ließen. Die Freude der Beifahrer war ihnen beim Aussteigen von den Gesichtern abzulesen und sie wären wohl alle gerne noch ein paar Runden mitgefahren.

Walkenhorst Motorsport nahm mit sechs Autos in drei verschiedenen Rennklassen teil. In der Kategorie SP9 Pro starteten der BMW M6 GT3 #34 mit den Fahrern Christian Kroges, David Pittard und Ben Tuck sowie das Schwesterauto #35 mit Jörg Müller, Mario von Bohlen, Thomas Neubauer und Dennis Fetzer. Erstere mussten das Rennen leider frühzeitig beenden während letztere sich P6 in ihrer Klasse sicherten. In der Kategorie SP9 AM fuhr der dritte BMW M6 GT3 #36 mit Henry Walkenhorst, Jörg Breuer sowie Andreas Ziegler, sie schafften es in ihrer Klasse auf P2. Natürlich waren auch beide BMW M2 CSr wieder im Cup5 vertreten. Der Wagen mit der Nummer #888 wurde von Florian Weber, Davide Dehren und Thomas D. Hetzer gesteuert, diese erreichten P6 in ihrer Klasse. Im zweiten M2 CSr #889 kamen Steven Liquorish, Matthew Greenwood und Nicolai Kjaergaard zum Einsatz und fuhren auf P8.

Auch wenn das Rennwochenende nicht unbedingt wie erwartet lief, ist so ein sechs Stunden Rennen doch ein wahres Erlebnis. Denn die Koordination so vieler Autos und Fahrern ist natürlich sehr anspruchsvoll, macht aber auch großen Spaß. Auch die Enttäuschung über den frühzeitigen Rennabbruch des BMW M6 GT3 #34 konnte der grundsätzlich sehr guten Stimmung im Team nichts anhaben.
