#DOUBLETROUBLE – DTM / DTM Trophy & GTWCEU NBR

Melle, September 1^st. Walkenhorst Motorsport has a “clash” or how the team calls it on social media “Doubletrouble” for the first weekend of September. While the GTWCEU will be at the Nürburgring this weekend, the DTM and DTM-Trophy will start into the fifth race of the season almost 900km away in beautiful Austria, more precisely at the Red Bull Ring.

For the team, such a double event means a lot of work, but even more anticipation for the extremely exciting race weekend. Of course, this also means that the team has to split up in order to master both events. Without a well-coordinated team, even the best racer can’t win. For this reason, when splitting the team, it was important to pay close attention to how which team member could be used in the best possible way.

As Marco Wittmann with the BMW M6 GT3 #11 is fighting for another victory in the DTM this weekend with his GTWCEU colleagues Sheldon van der Linde and Timo Glock, they will not be able to participate in the GTWCEU. They are therefore worthily represented by Jake Dennis, Nick Yelloly and Nicky Catsburg. While the first two race together with David Pittard in the BMW M6 GT3 #34, Nicky Catsburg will participate with Martin Tomczyk and Thomas Neubauer in the sister car BMW M6 GT3 #35.

As usual, Theo Oeverhaus will start at DTM Trophy with the BMW M4 GT4 #34. The line-up of the BMW M4 GT4 will change #35, instead of Chandler Hull Dennis Fetzer will be behind the wheel. Unfortunately Chandler cannot join the team this time due to other race commitments and clashes, but he will be back for NLS 7 on the M4 GT4 with Walkenhorst.

Jake Dennis: ”I am really looking forward to go back to GT3. We’ve got a whole british lineup with David and Nick so it’s going to be good sharing the car with them. And then obviously it’s a new team for me and I also have never driven the BMW M6 GT3 either so it should be very exciting. Nevertheless I am looking forward to the challenge and hopefully we can have a good result.”

Nicky Catsburg: “Really looking forward to being back with the Walkenhorst Team after winning the IGTC championship with them. Can’t wait to be back and be sharing a car with Martin Tomczyk with who I shared a car in the WEC a few years ago, so it’s great to work with him. It also seems like Thomas Neubauer is having a great season so far. I am looking forward to join these guys and have a good result.”

Nick Yelloly: “I am looking very forward to be back with Walkenhorst after competing the IGTC where the team did very well. Also can’t wait to be back at one of my favourite tracks and a full british lineup which will for sure try all they can to get very good results for the team and BMW.”

Niclas Königbauer: “ After the extremely positive development of the last DTM races and the awareness that we are on the right path, we are now looking forward to the Red Bull Ring, which particularly suits the BMW M6 GT3 on paper. With a strong tailwind and great motivation, we are now starting an extremely strenuous but also exciting second half of the season with hopefully many spectators on and around the track. The fact that we will also participate at the 4th round of the GTWCEU on our home track at the Nürburgring this weekend underlines the great development of the team and the tireless commitment of all those involved. I am delighted that we have the full support of such a committed and motivated team to master these challenges.”

Melle, 1. September. Direkt das erste Septemberwochenende hält für Walkenhorst Motorsport einen “Clash” bereit oder wie das Team es gerne auf Social Media nennt „Doubletrouble“. Während sich die GTWCEU an diesem Wochenende am Nürburgring einfindet, gehen fast 900km entfernt die DTM und DTM-Trophy, im schönen Österreich, genauer gesagt am Red Bull Ring, zum fünften Rennen der Saison an den Start.

Für das Team bedeutet so eine Doppelveranstaltung jede Menge Arbeit, allerdings noch viel mehr Vorfreude auf das extrem spannende Rennwochenende. Natürlich heißt das auch, dass sich das Team aufteilen muss um beide Events zu meistern. Ohne ein gut aufeinander abgestimmtes Team kann auch der beste Rennfahrer nicht siegen. Aus diesem Grund musste bei der Aufteilung der Mannschaft genau darauf geachtet werden, wie welches Teammitglied bestmöglich eingesetzt werden kann.

Da Marco Wittmann mit dem BMW M6 GT3 #11 an diesem Wochenende mit seinen GTWCE-Kollegen Sheldon van der Linde und Timo Glock in der DTM um einen erneuten Sieg kämpft, können diese nicht an der GTWCE teilnehmen. Sie werden deshalb von Jake Dennis, Nick Yelloly sowie Nicky Catsburg würdig vertreten. Während die ersten beiden zusammen mit David Pittard mit dem BMW M6 GT3 #34 ins Rennen gehen, startet Nicky Catsburg zusammen mit Martin Tomczyk und Thomas Neubauer im Schwesterauto BMW M6 GT3 #35.

Theo Oeverhaus wird wie gewohnt mit dem BMW M4 GT4 #34 in der DTM-Trophy fahren. Allerdings verändert sich die Besetzung des BMW M4 GT4 #35, statt Chandler Hull wird Dennis Fetzer ins Rennen gehen. Leider kann Chandler dieses Mal aufgrund anderer Rennverpflichtungen und Zusammenstöße nicht dabei sein, aber er wird für NLS 7 auf dem M4 GT4 mit Walkenhorst zurückkehren.

Jake Dennis: „Ich freue mich sehr darauf wieder zurück in die GT3 Klasse zu gehen. Wir sind eine komplett britische Fahreraufstellung mit David und Nick, also find ich es toll das Auto mit ihnen zu teilen. Und dann ist es natürlich ein neues Team für mich und ich bin auch noch nie den BMW M6 GT3 gefahren, also kann es sehr spannend werden. Trotzdem freue ich mich auf die Herausforderung und hoffe, dass wir ein gutes Ergebnis erzielen können.”

Nicky Catsburg: „Ich freue mich sehr darauf, wieder beim Walkenhorst-Team zu sein, nachdem ich mit ihnen die IGTC-Meisterschaft gewonnen habe. Ich kann es kaum erwarten zurück zu sein und ein Auto mit Martin Tomczyk zu teilen, mit dem ich vor ein paar Jahren ein Auto in der WEC geteilt habe, also ist es großartig, mit ihm zu arbeiten. Es scheint auch, dass Thomas Neubauer bisher eine tolle Saison hat. Ich freue mich darauf, mich diesen Jungs anzuschließen und ein gutes Ergebnis zu erzielen.”

Nick Yelloly: „Ich freue mich sehr darauf, wieder bei Walkenhorst zu sein, nachdem ich bei der IGTC an den Start gegangen bin, wo das Team sehr gut abgeschnitten hat. Ich kann es auch kaum erwarten, wieder auf einer meiner Lieblingsstrecken mit einer komplett britischen Fahreraufstellung zu sein, das sicherlich alles versuchen wird um sehr gute Ergebnisse für das Team und BMW zu erzielen.”

Niclas Königbauer: „Nach der extrem positiven Entwicklung der letzten DTM Rennen und dem Bewusstsein, dass wir auf dem richtigen Weg sind, freuen wir uns nun besonders auf den Red Bull Ring, der dem BMW M6 GT3 auf dem Papier besonders liegt. Mit kräftigem Rückenwind und großer Motivation starten wir nun in eine extrem anstrengende aber auch spannende zweite Saisonhälfte mit hoffentlich vielen Zuschauern an und rund um die Strecke. Dass wir an diesem Wochenende zeitgleich auch noch auf unserer Heimstrecke am Nürburgring den 4. Lauf der GTWCEU bestreiten unterstreicht die tolle Weiterentwicklung vom Team und den unermüdlichen Einsatz aller Beteiligten. Ich freue mich, dass wir die volle Rückendeckung eines so engagierten und motivierten Teams haben um diese Herausforderungen zu meistern.“
