24H Nürburgring

Nürburg. The 24-hour race at the Nürburgring was difficult and frustrating for Walkenhorst Motorsport. In the end, the BMW M4 GT3 with starting number #102 was the only GT3 car from the Munich brand to see the finish line. The team would have expected more for the 50th anniversary of BMW M and the 24-hour race. The top car from Walkenhorst Motorsport was driven by Christian Krognes, Andy Soucek, Sami-Matti Trogen and Jörg Müller. Krognes qualified the BMW in seventh place in top qualifying, having previously been second in the cumulative qualifying results.
In the first hours of the race, the M4 GT3 was in the extended leading group before technical issues forced the team to withdraw the car. In addition to team owner Henry Walkenhorst, Friedrich von Bohlen, Jörg Breuer and Andreas Ziegler also sat in the cockpit of the team’s gentleman car. Unfortunately, here too, there was a stoppage during the night. After an impact, the car had to be parked. The BMW M4 GT3 in the Alpecin design driven by Ben Tuck, Jörg Müller, Mario von Bohlen and Jörn Schmidt-Staade crossed the finish line as the only BMW GT3 in the entire field. But even the Walkenhorst Motorsport car with starting number #102 did not cover the race distance without problems.
On Sunday morning the team had to repair the car after a collision, so the remaining race distance was approached by the team and the drivers as a test to at least gain experience with the new GT3 model from BMW.In summary, unfortunately, the conclusion must be drawn that the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring 2022 did not go as well as Henry Walkenhorst, the ambitious team manager Niclas Königbauer and the entire team had hoped and expected. In the coming year, the BMW team from Melle will launch another attack on overall victory. The next race for Walkenhorst Motorsport will be from June 17th to 19th, when the DTM and the DTM Trophy will be held at Imola in Italy. Just one week later, the team returns to the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, then the next round of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie is on the schedule with the 45th RCM DMV Grenzlandrennen.
