The Italian high-speed circuit awaited the participants of the world’s largest GT3 racing series with many pitfalls. Walkenhorst Motorsport entered three Aston Martin Vantage GT3s in the race.

‘It was a simply incredible race here in Monza!’ said Managing Director Jörg Breuer. ‘It wasn’t clear how the race would end until the last corner. Different strategies, tough battles and many incidents made for a real thriller. We are delighted to have secured our first podium result in this year’s Fanatec GT World season.’

Romain Leroux, Lorcan Hanafin and Maxime Robin took turns in the Silver Cup car of the team from Melle in Lower Saxony. At the first pit stop, the team had to serve a 10-second time penalty because Robin had broken a rule at the start. Over the remaining distance, Leroux and his British team-mate Hanafin started a race to catch up and put in a faultless performance, enabling them to move up a few positions in the thriller. After three hours of racing, the Aston Martin was waved off in 19th position in the overall standings, which is equivalent to third place in the Silver Cup.

Walkenhorst Motorsport’s top car, which was driven by the three Aston Martin works drivers David Pittard, Henrique Chaves and Valentin Hasse-Clot, was also on course for a strong result for a long time. However, in the final hour of the race, the car had to serve a drive-through penalty because Frenchman Hasse-Clot allegedly overtook a car in front of the white line during a safety car restart. As a result, the car ultimately finished the race in 23rd position.

For Tim Creswick, Mex Jansen and Ben Green, the race was over after the first sector. In a violent accident at the start, the #36 car was hit by a competitor who spun backwards into the chicane. A bitter result for the driver trio, as the drivers proved in the practice sessions that they are among the fastest drivers in the Bronze Cup. Ben Green was the fastest Aston Martin driver in the entire field in free practice on Saturday morning and also achieved a strong top 10 result in the overall standings in his qualifying segment.

‘It’s a bit of a two-sided result for us. The podium result is a great reward for the hard work of Lorcan, Maxime and Romain, who have improved a lot over the course of the season so far. On the other hand, we are mourning the potential results of our top car and our Bronze Cup car – strong results would also have been possible here in Monza. Now we are moving on to Austria, where we will be motivated to compete in the ADAC GT Masters,’ concluded Niclas Königbauer.

The Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup season will end on the last weekend of November. The racing series will complete a six-hour race on the ultra-fast street circuit in Jeddah, which is world-famous for Formula 1. Fans can already look forward to a real highlight!

In a chaotic race of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup race, Walkenhorst Motorsport celebrated its first podium in the 2024 season.
