Walkenhorst Motorsport enjoyed two top 3 results in the classes at the 6h race of the N\u00fcrburgring Langstrecken-Serie – the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 retired after a serious accident on the starting lap.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 6-hour race of the ADAC N\u00fcrburgring Langstrecken-Serie was to be the season highlight of the series. Walkenhorst Motorsport entered an Aston Martin Vantage GT3, a BMW M4 GT4 and a Hyundai i30 N in the race. But on Friday evening, a pressurised cylinder exploded in the paddock, injuring 22 people, some of them seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The explosion was a shock for our entire team, as it happened behind our neighbouring pit. We are glad that our team remained unharmed. Our thoughts are with the injured and their families and we wish them a speedy recovery and the best possible processing of this catastrophe,” said Managing Director J\u00f6rg Breuer on behalf of the entire Walkenhorst Motorsport team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Walkenhorst Motorsport won the SP9 Pro-Am class with the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 at the last round of the N\u00fcrburgring Langstrecken-Serie, the drivers Sami-Matti Trogen, Benjamin Mazatis, Anders Buchardt and Stefan Aust went into the race with confidence. But after just a few kilometres, the race ended on the starting lap: Trogen lost control of the car in the Flugplatz section and crashed heavily into the crash barrier. After the car slid back onto the track, another GT4 car hit the Aston Martin. The young racing driver from Finland was able to get out of the car unharmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two Nordschleife experts Tobias Wahl and Florian Weber took turns in the BMW M4 GT4 in the race, which was interrupted on the second lap after a mass accident involving the top GT3 cars as rain set in and then resumed for the remaining four hours. Wahl and Weber delivered a faultless performance and finished the race in third position in the heavily contested SP10 class. This is Walkenhorst Motorsport’s first top 3 result in the class this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hyundai i30 N of the team from Melle also finished third in the VT2 FWD class. Alongside three-time World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx, who also won the 24-hour race at the N\u00fcrburgring in 2005, Ben Barker, Seb Priaulx and Alex Connor formed the British “Dream Team” in the team’s permit car. The prominent drivers of the Hyundai delivered a faultless performance and were able to impress with fast lap times!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Of course, it was disappointing for our team that the GT3 retired on the starting lap. Fortunately, Sami-Matti survived this serious accident unharmed,” summarised Niclas K\u00f6nigbauer, Managing Director Walkenhorst Motorsport. “However, we are all the more satisfied with the performance of our other drivers: they did a flawless job in the difficult conditions and drove to strong results in their classes!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ADAC N\u00fcrburgring Langstrecken-Serie continues on 19 October. The 55th Adenauer ADAC Rundstrecken-Trophy will then take place on the N\u00fcrburgring-Nordschleife over a race distance of four hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
