Walkenhorst Motorsport score points on difficult race weekend
Walkenhorst Motorsport finished a difficult ADAC GT Masters race weekend at the Red Bull Ring in seventh place.
The fifth race weekend of the ADAC GT Masters took place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. Walkenhorst Motorsport entered two Aston Martin Vantage GT3s, driven by Mike David Ortmann and Denis Bulatov as well as Chandler Hull and Nico Hantke.
‘Unfortunately, this was a difficult weekend for us, as the car classification was not quite right and made life difficult for us. Nevertheless, we never gave up and were at least able to finish seventh on Sunday,’ said Managing Director Jörg Breuer.
Mike David Ortmann started the first race from tenth on the grid. After a good start, the two-time ADAC GT4 Germany champion skidded off the track on the first lap and dropped back to the back of the field. As the race progressed, Ortmann and his partner Bulatov struggled to make up places and finished the race in 16th position. However, the two drivers were still able to pick up some points thanks to some guest starters ahead of them.
Sunday went better for the #34 duo. Bulatov started the race from eighth place and together with his team-mate Ortmann they finished a solid seventh. A possible attack on the cars in front of them was prevented after the race was stopped a few minutes before the scheduled end due to a serious accident involving a competitor.
Chandler Hull and Nico Hantke once again wanted to fight for strong positions in the Pro-Am class of the ADAC GT Masters in Austria. In the first race, American Hull spun into the guard rail just before the pit stop window, but was able to continue. The duo finished the race in 17th place overall and sixth in their class. On Sunday, the drivers were classified in 13th place, which is equivalent to fourth in class.
‘Despite the unfavourable starting position, our entire team worked hard in Spielberg and never gave up, so compliments to them! Unfortunately, this was not our weekend, even though we travelled there quite optimistically. Nevertheless, Mike and Denis were able to collect important points. We are now preparing meticulously for the season finale in Hockenheim,’ explains Niclas Königbauer.
Ortmann and Bulatov are in sixth place in the overall championship standings after five of six race weekends and are only six points behind the driver in front of them. In the team standings, the squad from Melle in Lower Saxony is in fifth place, just one point behind the fourth-placed team. The season finale in Hockenheim takes place in three weeks’ time.
