Walkenhorst Motorsport with top 5 results on the Nordschleife

Walkenhorst Motorsport achieved two strong results in the Nürburgring Endurance Series with a BMW M4 GT4.

A full programme for Walkenhorst Motorsport: In addition to competing in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup, the Lower Saxony-based racing team also entered two cars in the season opener of the ADAC Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie. The team lined up with a BMW M4 GT4 and a Hyundai i30 N.

The two Nordschleife experts Aris Balanian and Tobias Wahl entered the BMW in the highly competitive SP10 class for homologated GT4 cars. With eleven starters on Saturday, this was one of the strongest classes in the field. The Walkenhorst BMW drivers held their own against the strong competition and did a flawless job on the legendary race track in the Eifel. The two veterans finished fifth in class on Saturday, followed by fourth on Sunday – the two drivers missed out on a top 3 result in the GT4 class by just 38 seconds.

The Hyundai i30 N, which competed in the VT2 FWD class, also impressed with its strong speed. The driver trio was led by former Formula 1 driver and last year’s DTM race winner Jack Aitken. Micah Stanley and Joseph Warhurst joined Aitken at the start. In Saturday’s race, the colourful Hyundai was in a promising position in the class before the car suffered a puncture on the left front tyre. Although the car could be brought back to the pits at slow speed, it lost a lot of time in the process. After a short repair, the race was finally able to continue, but it was no longer possible to finish higher than eleventh. The Hyundai was unable to contest Sunday’s race after an accident in qualifying, as the production-based racing car was badly damaged.

“I look back on our race weekend on the Nordschleife with mixed feelings”, said Jörg Breuer, Managing Director of Walkenhorst Motorsport. “We put in a faultless performance with the BMW and achieved two strong results. We also put in a strong performance with the Hyundai, but due to the tyre damage on Saturday and the qualifying accident on Sunday, we were unable to underline our true capabilities in the race with strong results.”

Walkenhorst Motorsport will continue on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife next week, when the two four-hour races of the ADAC 24h Qualifiers are scheduled. The two races are part of the ADAC Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie for the first time – the organisation has already published a high-quality entry list for the two races.
