Race report 24h Nürburgring

Walkenhorst Motorsport with top team performance and early end for the #101 at the ADAC TotalEnergies 24h Nürburgring

A strong performance meets bad luck at the ADAC TotalEnergies 24h Nürburgring. Walkenhorst Motorsport proves once again that it can keep up with the top. But collisions make it difficult for the BMW team. The pro crew with the #101 had to park the vehicle early.

Nürburgring. In the run-up to the ADAC TotalEnergies 24h Nürburgring, all signs pointed to success. Everything went according to plan for Walkenhorst Motorsport up until top qualifying 1 when Christian Krognes had a serious accident in the BMW M4 GT3. Fortunately, nothing happened to the driver, but the racing car was badly damaged. But the team proved once again what it’s made of. The mechanics of the BMW team worked all night to finish the car. A big thank you goes to Frikadelli Racing and Klaus Abbelen, who immediately made their workshop available.

The green flag was waved right on time at 4:00 p.m. and the line-up, consisting of four vehicles, was able to tackle the legendary endurance race.

The #101 and #102 BMW M4 GT3s got off to a good start. Jakub Giermaziak and Jens Klingmann started the race in the Yokohama Advan Design cars and were 21st and 14th after an hour. The performance was further improved over the course of the first few hours, so that Andy Soucek was sixth after five and a half hours in the #101. The top 5 were within reach and the goal was clear, but luck wasn’t kind to the team. After a collision with an opponent during an overtaking maneuver in the Pflanzgarten area, the driver had to drive into the pits for repair work. The crew did their best and was able to field the BMW M4 GT3 again. The #101 started catching up when another accident meant that the vehicle driven by Christian Krognes, Jakub Gieramziak, Jesse Krohn and Andy Soucek had to be parked for good.

The second pro vehicle was in 12th place at this point.

The sister car, #100, also had a small bump beforehand, but this did not stop the quartet consisting of team owners Henry Walkenhorst and Jörg Breuer as well as Christian Bollrath and Sami-Matti Trogen from pursuing the goal. Just before midnight, the BMW M4 GT3 was in P29. The #74 has also driven a consistent race so far. Florian Weber, Aris Balanian and Jarno D’Hauw are currently in 52nd place.

Jörg Breuer: “Our team did a fantastic job of getting the BMW M4 GT3 repaired for the race. Until the incident of our #101, the race was going very well for us. Still, we’re looking forward to the night when our #102 will race on the Yokohama Soft tires. The #100 runs great despite a small touch. We are looking forward to the coming hours and are still highly motivated.”
