NLS 5 & 6 DOUBLEHEADER

Only two weeks after the NLS4, the series continued on the weekend of the 10^th and 11^th July for the NLS-Doubleheader at the legendary Nordschleife. The Event started with the “61. Reinoldus Langstreckenrennen” on Saturday, followed by the “44. RCM DMV Grenzlandrennen” on Sunday. A total of 140 racing cars took part in the two-times four-hour racing challenge. A real pleasure for all motorsports enthusiasts. Finally, the T3 and T4 grandstands were filled again with lots of fans. While only 500 people were allowed at the last NLS, that weekend a total of 5,000 spectators per day were able to watch the race. This was an absolute record since the beginning of the Covid19 pandemic.

Walkenhorst Motorsport competed in both races with six cars. Instead of the BMW M2 CSr #889 (Cup5 / B class), both races were driven by its predecessors the BMW M240i Racing #149 which participated in the SP8T. The car was driven by the same crew as the M2 CSr which consisted Matthew Greenwood, Nicolai Kjaergaard and William Tregurtha. The third one switched on Sunday to the CUP5/ A alongside Florian Weber and Davide Dehren in the BMW M2 CSr #888 after both cars failed to finish the race on Saturday. Still, they managed to finish the NLS6 on Sunday at P3 in Cup5 and the M240iR P4 in SP8T. In SP9, the BMW M6 GT3 #34 with the drivers Christian Krognes, David Pittard and Ben Tuck made it as well as one of the two sister cars #36 was driven by Henry Walkenhorst, Friedrich von Bohlen and Jörg Breuer into the Top 10 with 5th and 7th positions. The third M6 GT3 #35 with Jörg Müller, Mario von Bohlen and Thomas Neubauer finished in 21st place, after a time penalty due to a speed violation in the Code 60 Zone. The BMW M4 GT4 #181 with Candler Hull and Jonathan Miller, who competed in the SP10 class, finished the raceat P2 in class. The M4 GT4 kept its final position on Sunday. Unfortunately, neither of the other two M6 GT3s could finish the race. The #35 had to be park prematurely, while the #36 couldn’t start at all.

However, Christian Krogens and his team-mates had two reasons to celebrate on Sunday. Just before the start of the race, the Norwegian set a new lap record at the Nordschleife with an outstanding time of 7:51. 807 minutes. Thus, securing the Pole-Position for his team.
To top this, he took his first win of the season for Walkenhorst Motorsport beside David Pittard and Ben Tuck a few hours later. The boys showed an outstanding performance in the duel with the Phoenix Audi #5 to maintain their first-place finish.

Nur zwei Wochen nach dem NLS4 ging es am Wochenende vom 10. und 11. Juli mit einer NLS-Doppelveranstaltung auf der legendären Nordschleife weiter. Eröffnet wurde das Wochenende mit dem 61.Reinoldus Langstreckenrennen am Samstag, dicht gefolgt vom 44. RCM DMV Grenzlandrennen, welches sonntags stattfand. Insgesamt stellten sich 140 Rennwaagen der zwei Mal vier Stunden andauernden Renn-Challenge. Eine wahre Freude für alle Motorsportfreunde. Endlich durften auch wieder die T3 und T4 besetzt werden. Waren bei der letzten NLS nur 500 Fans erlaubt, so konnten sich an besagtem Wochenende ganze 5.000 Zuschauer pro Tag das Rennspektakel ansehen. Dies stellte einen absoluten Rekord seit Beginn der Covid19-Pandemi dar. Walkenhorst Motosport nahm mit sechs Fahrzeugen an beiden Rennen teil.

Statt des BMW M2 CSr #889 in der CUP5/ B Klasse war bei diesen beiden Rennen sein Vorgänger der BMW M240i Racing Cup #149 in der SP8T dabei. Gelenkt wurde dieser von der gleichen Crew wie der zu Hause gebliebene M2 CSr bestehend aus Matthew Greenwood, Nicolai Kjaergaard und William Tregurtha. Letzterer fuhr jedoch sonntags beim CUP5/ A zusammen mit Florian Weber und Davide Dehren im BMW M2 CSr #888 mit, nachdem beide Autos das Rennen am Samstag nicht beenden konnten. Sie schafften es allerdings nach dem verpatzen Samstag auf P3 im Cup5 und P4 in der SP8T bei NLS6 rauszufahren.

In der SP9 schafften es sowohl der BMW M6 GT3 #34 mit den Fahrern Christian Krognes, David Pittard und Ben Tuck sowie eines der zwei Schwesternautos #36 mit Henry Walkenhorst, Friedrich von Bohlen und Jörg Breuer in die Top zehn mit den Plätzen 5 und 7. Der dritte M6 GT3 #35 mit Jörg Müller, Mario von Bohlen und Thomas Neubauer landete nach einer Zeitstrafe aufgrund eines Geschwindigkeitsverstoß in der Code 60 Zone auf Platz 21. Der BMW M4 GT4 #181 mit Candler Hull und Jonathan Miller, welche in der SP10 Klasse das Rennen bestritten, eroberten den 2. Platz. Der M4 GT4 behielt seine Endposition auch am Sonntag. Bedauerlicher Weise konnten keiner der anderen beiden M6 GT3 das Rennen beenden. Die Fahrer der #35 mussten das Auto leider vorzeitig abstellen während die #36 erst gar nicht starten konnte.

Allerdings gab es für Christian Krogens und seine Teamkollegen am Sonntag gleich zwei Gründe zum Feiern, erst setzte der Norweger vor Rennstart mit einer überragenden Zeit von 7:51,807 Minuten einen neuen Rundenrekord an der Nordschleife und sicherte seinem Team somit die Pole Position um nur wenige Stunden später zusammen mit seinen Teamkollegen David Pittard und Ben Tuck seinen Ersten Saisonsieg für Walkenhorst Motorsport zu erzielen. Die Jungs zeigten eine herausragende Leistung im Duell mit dem Phoenix-Audi #5 um den Erhalt Ihres ersten Platzes.
